A message from the President Let me first say that it is both an honor and a priviledge to be serving as president of Local 1243. I am very excited about the next couple of years, Scott Bryant did a great job of getting our local more active and I look forward to keeping that momentum going. I too have visions of a more active local with members whom are more informed and work closer together. I am looking forward to spending time with each unit and getting to know each of the members. One thing I would like to see is a couple events where we can come together outside of a formal environment and do the family thing. I believe these things are important in keeping our members happy and involed. I want to thank Scott Bryant and Marcus Omlin whom have offered their full assistance during my stint as President. I am making it a point to attend as many classes and meetings as I can to further educate myself in relation to labor laws and union contracts, keeping myself informed to better serve the members. I will work hard to represent each and every member of our local to the best of my ability. I also want to thank Ken Dahlenburg from Linden -Peters unit 5-1 for accepting the responsibility of overseeing our local's website and keeping it up to date, thus keeping members informed. This is one of my biggest goals as President, keeping good communication between the units in our local. A little background on me. I am 31 years old, I have been with Waterloo-Morada Fire District for over 7 years now. I have served as Local 1243's Secretary and Vice-President. I also served as Union shop stewart for unit 15-1, sitting on the negotiating comittee for our last two contracts. I was married this past September in San Diego to an amazing woman Denise. I have two step daughters, Serenity and Keanna. They keep me both out of trouble and very busy. I also have a 6 month old Bull Mastiff named Bruno, he is definitive of man's best friend. I love to have a good time and like I said, I look forward to putting together some great events for our local in the future. Thank you for your time, and please remember, you can contact me at any time for any reason. I am here for YOU! Randy E. Burns

THANK YOU
Updated

I would like to thank everyone for their support while I served as President of Local 1243. During my time as President I was able to experience many things. While I would love to say it was all good, we all know that there were some pressing issues that had to be addressed. But one thing was consistent throughout my time, I was able to work with some great people. I would like to personally thank the rest of my E Board: Randy Burns, Josh Houston, and Mark Weber. I was able to see first hand how dedicated these guys are to both their Districts and to this Union. As a member of the union, I never really understood the full meaning of what Brotherhood is all about until I served in this role. As I step away I feel I am a little more "seasoned" as a Union member. I hope that I can be of assistance in the future in whatever capacity needed. Thank you once again for allowing to serve. Scott Bryant

All of the votes are in. By a pretty wide margin, the proposal to increase the dues by $15 a month has passed. Please look for this change to be implemented soon. I appreciate all who voted as each and every vote counts. It is important to everyone that we all have a voice to make our Union strong. Scott

Firefighter Night at the Ports Game
Updated
On: Apr 10, 2009 (16:51:00)
Hello Everyone, The Stockton Ports are hosting a Firefighter Appreciation night. It will be held on May 8th. They have asked us to be involved. They are looking for a couple of things. They would like to have someone from our Local throw out the First Pitch, they would like to allow us to have any equipment there that we would like, and I think they would also offer us a place for a booth if we wanted one to promote our Local, Departments, etc.. I think this can be a great time for us to get our families togather and have fun in a relaxed setting. Something this Local has not been able to do for quite some time. They are asking us to reserve 75 tickets at $5.00 a ticket. I think this is a reasonable request. It is my hope that we get a large group committed to this event. Please get ahold of me with any questions. I am going to get the tickets if I get some good responses in the next couple of days. I look forward to hearing from everyone! Scott Bryant
